ALS, 1863 December 11 : New York, to Capt. E.M. Davis, Philadelphia.

JCF asks for "the original of my order proclaiming the slaves of rebels free" so that it can be exhibited at a fair in Cincinnati. Because of his order to confiscate rebel property, including slaves, Fremont lost his command of the Department of the West.
